Ahten’s Last Ride

Chandler, AZ – This weekend’s NHRA Regional race at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park will be the last race for Johnny Ahten - couresy of John RogersJohnny Ahten in this Top Alcohol Dragster. Don’t worry, Johnny is not changing careers. The decision to sell the car has been made and a new Stump Puller is in the shop and will debut at the Vegas race.

“Our first race with this car was the November 2004 points race in Vegas, and it’s been quite a ride,” said Ahten. “The car has been to nine NHRA finals and three IHRA finals. We have been as quick as 5.15 and over 270 mph, and I will never forget her. More than just a racecar, she has been a part of our lives for many years. The car will carry on, and continue to attack the dragstrip,” added Ahten.

This will be the second race of the year for the Island Renovations/Combust Filters sponsored team. Their Pomona Winternational’s 5.295/264.39 qualifying effort was strong, but Johnny and the team are looking to send the car off right. Crew Chief Al Ahten, along with racing partner Howard Katano have the tune-up well in hand, and Kevin Colvell along with Bob Ahten will assist Johnny in making sure the ‘ol girl has a proper send off. The car continues to wow racers and fans alike with the new One11 Ink wrap that was revealed in Pomona.

“We are excited about our new car, which will also carry the Stump Puller name, added Ahten. “It has been on our cars for years. This weekend’s Regional race is a chance to take a break from preparing the new car and enjoy the drags. After the race, we will remove the motor and various pieces and the new owner will take delivery.”

Qualifying will begin on Friday, with eliminations on Saturday, February 28th at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park. A strong contingent of racers will be in attendance. It is never easy to say goodbye to a friend, and this weekend will be filled with special moments and memories. No matter the outcome, the journey home without a racecar in the trailer will be a bittersweet reminder of Ahten’s last ride. To stay informed visit: www.facebook.com/JohnnyAhtenRacing
