Morgan’s continued improvements could change Seattle outcome

SEATTLE, WA – With a new engine that will arrive in time for this weekend’s O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals, Pro NHRA: Gatornationals-QualifyingStock driver Larry Morgan is ready to turn his luck around this season at Pacific Raceways.

“We’ve done pretty good up there over the years,” Morgan said. “I’ve been to some semifinals a few times. I’d just like to get past the first round this time. I need to have a little luck.”

While the Lucas Oil Ford Mustang has had its share of crazy rides during the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season, Morgan is hoping that things will finally look up for him and his team when they unload for qualifying in Seattle.

“We haven’t really recovered since some problems we had in Topeka (Kan.),” Morgan said. “Once you get behind, man, it’s hard to get it back with how tight this Pro Stock class is. We’ve been scrambling for a while now.

“But things could be looking up for us. Seattle has really great air for racing. Hopefully, this new engine will be tuned up and ready to put down a fast time.”

Morgan has tried many different options to break the streak he is on, including using lucky laundry in Denver. Don’t be surprised though if he has a few tricks up his sleeve for the Seattle competition if the new engine doesn’t prove to be enough in qualifying for Morgan’s liking.

“I always enjoyed going there because they had a surplus store for Boeing,” Morgan said. “They always had all kinds of trick stuff there. Of course, that’s been closed for a few years!”

Pro Stock qualifying sessions will be held at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. PT, Friday, and 12:30 and 3:30 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations will start at approximately noon, Sunday. Qualifying and elimination action will be broadcast on ESPN2.
