Rowe & Matusek Feeling the Momentum Headed into NHRA Spring Nationals

BAYTOWN, TX – For Danny Rowe and Steve Matusek, drivers of the popular Agave Underground Tequila Pro Mod Camaros, it Danny Roweseems like forever since the last time they took to the quarter-mile, but that’s not the only reason they’re so excited about this weekend’s O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston’s Royal Purple Raceway.

Rowe and Matusek’s combined enthusiasm stems from the team’s track record at Royal Purple Raceway – namely Rowe’s two victories and three final round appearances over the course of the last four seasons.

“We are motivated,” says Rowe, emphatically. “It’s been a little while since Gainesville, so we’re thrilled just to be going racing, but we are motivated headed into Houston – it’s a race where we’ve had a lot of success over the years. Based on how we started the season in Gainesville and the handle Jimmy [Rector, crew chief] has had on the track over the years, it’s hard not to head to Texas with a little pep in your step.

“Not to mention, we got off to a great start with Steve [Matusek] and the new part of our team in Gainesville, so there’s a lot to build on, a lot to be excited about,” he continues. “Agave Underground is bringing in a bunch of guests over the course of the weekend, along with a number of their key staff members, and we’re always thrilled to have the opportunity to put on a show for them. It’s going to be a big weekend in Texas.”

Matusek, who made a career-best 5.904-second, 246.26mph pass in his supercharged Pro Mod debut at Auto-Plus Raceway, is eager to get back behind the wheel and ride the momentum coming out of NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series season-opening Gatornationals.

“At this point, I’m just very anxious,” says Matusek. “I’m anxious to get down there and get after it, but also just proud to be a part of this team. Looking back at Gainesville, it’s hard to believe the progress we made – that first qualifier was the very first time we ever went 1,320-feet. We’re still very, very green, and to qualify in the top half of the field and go some rounds with essentially a brand new car, brand new team and a new driver is something that I think we’re all pretty proud of.

“The conditions down in Houston should be interesting,” continues Matusek. “When it looks like it’s going to come down to a tuning battle, you can’t help but feel good when you’ve got Jimmy Rector on your side. These are the races that separate the men from the boys and I can’t wait.”

The NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series will begin qualifying for the 27th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway on Friday, April 25th with two sessions at 3:30 and 6:00 PM. Qualifying continues with a third session on Saturday at 2:00 PM and the opening round of eliminations slated for 4:30 PM. Eliminations continue on Sunday at 12:15 PM.
