Makenna Brown Wins RAD Torque Systems $20,000 32-Car Shootout at the Spring Fling

Benson, NC — Day four of the Strange Engineering Spring Fling presented by Optima Batteries at GALOT Motorsports Park saw rain until the late morning, but that didn’t stop the track crew from working tirelessly on the racing surface to have cars ready to fire up at 1 p.m.

The Fling Team made the decision to combine both the Silver State $50,000 race and the Wiseco Performance Products $50,000 race into one $100,000 event that would begin Friday and be completed Saturday. With 383 entries staging up for the first round, the objective was to finish the buyback round and run the RAD Torque Systems $20,000 32-Car Shootout.

Parrish qualified with a .002 package on the door car side with his 1993 Mustang and Holloman on the dragster side with a .003 package. Parrish was .012 and .019 over the dial for the win against Holloman and walked away with the SR20 cylinder heads.

The eight drivers in the ladder round included Makenna Brown, Connor Caulder, Kevin Brannon, Troy Williams Jr., Ken Batchelor, Will Holloman, John Brown, and Jeff Verdi.

PERFORMANCE MOTORSPORTS AND GO LITHIUM ANNOUNCE NEW PARTNERSHIP

GO Lithium joins the respected list of sponsoring companies that are promoted by Bishop’s Performance Motorsports.

COLERAINE, MN – Over the years, Bishop’s Performance Motorsports has developed meaningful relationships with a multitude of reputable organizations, and they have no desire to slow down. The latest addition to the BPM family, GO Lithium, is no exception to greatness.

GO Lithium manufactures lithium batteries in the United States that are built specifically for racing. The batteries weigh in at 9lbs, although what they lack in weight is made up for in quality. GO Lithium packs 1250 amps and constructed with prismatic technology which enhances endurance. In fact, they expect the average race team to be able to use a GO Lithium battery for approximately ten years.

Bishop’s Performance Motorsports founder, Chris Bishop, is ecstatic about the opportunity to add GO Lithium products to his operation. He states, “Not only does GO Lithium have a great product, but they are also basically in my backyard which made this deal a no-brainer. The week of the Brainerd Nationals, Doug Johnson [owner] sent his guys, AJ and Broc, to install them in our Top Sportsman Malibu and we quickly realized the professionalism they had. The batteries are very lightweight, and the cranking power is the best we have seen! I’m looking forward to building a lasting relationship for years to come.”

Steve Witherow Scores the Big Check During the Brodix Run for $50,000

Bristol, TN – Million Dollar Friday presented by Maytag/Silverstate Refrigeration at the K&N Spring Fling Million presented by Optima Batteries was upon us. By the end of today, there will have been one racer standing whose life may change when he’s added to the rolls of former Spring Fling Million Dollar race champions; Jeff Verdi, Luke Bogacki, Randall Reid and Peeps Pennington.

With a  progressive payout to the winner, the more cars entered in the race, the higher the winner’s share goes. Last year, Pennington took home to Texas $375,000. The event is typically held in Las Vegas, where rolling the dice for the big win is normal. Due to COVID restrictions, Fling officials had to move the event to the east coast and a facility, Bristol Dragway, which is first class in every aspect.

First up today was the Brodix Run for the $50,000. Each racer on the property “rolled the dice” and paid $50 for one time run. The racer who lays down a perfect run (.000 RT and dead-on the dial with a “0”) gets the 50Gs. If no one accomplishes the task, the first three best packages earn prizes from Brodix and the Fling. Should no one hit the big prize, Fling officials will roll the money over and pay $20,000 to the first perfect package during Million Dollar Friday eliminations.

Wolf, Booher Obliterate Torque Converter World Record at NHRA U.S. Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS – Kirk Wolf and the Booher Racing Top Alcohol Dragster team turned a slow start into a record-breaking weekend at last weekend’s Chevrolet Performance NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway. Wolf drove the AB Construction supercharged dragster to a 5.300-second pass in qualifying and a 5.256 in the first round of eliminations to reset the world record for the quickest torque-converter-equipped race car.

“It felt amazing to make two strong runs,” Wolf said. “We’ve worked so hard, especially Brandon, to get the car to this point. For him to let me pilot the car and set the records, I can’t really ask for much more. We’ve shown we now have one of the most competitive cars in the class, and that we have a torque converter car that can run right there with the top clutch cars and A/Fuel cars.”

Wolf Earns First Wally at NHRA Summer Shootout in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster rookie Kirk Wolf earned his first regional event victory in his third consecutive final round last weekend. Racing at the NHRA North Central Region’s Summer Shootout at Lucas Oil Raceway, Wolf drove the torque-converter-equipped Booher Racing blown alcohol dragster to a 5.334-second pass at 273.50 mph to defeat Marty Thacker and his 5.393 at 267.75 in the final round.

“It was one of those things where you can’t find the words to describe it,” Wolf said. “It felt amazing to see that win light come on after all the hard work and trouble we’ve been through this year. It was real rewarding to see that pay off and get to take home a trophy at the end of the weekend. I’ve been trying to win a Wally since I was 10 years old racing Jr. Dragsters. Twenty-one years later, I finally got one. It’s very gratifying.”

Tuned by past NHRA national event winner and 2013 North Central Regional champion Brandon Booher, Wolf qualified second with a 5.345 at 272.83. In eliminations, he used a 5.362 at 270.81 to defeat JP Gutierrez, then fired off low elapsed time of eliminations, 5.315 at 272.83, to beat Kris Krabill and move on to face Thacker in the final round.

Wolf Pleased with First Two Races in Top Alcohol Dragster

LAS VEGAS – In Kirk Wolf’s first two races in Top Alcohol Dragster competition, the Texas native experienced some kirk-wolf-in-carof the highs and lows of racing in drag racing’s quickest and fastest Sportsman class. After signing a deal to drive the proven blown alcohol entry usually driven by Brandon Booher, Wolf went through the heartbreak of failing to qualify at his home race in Dallas, then rebounded with a top-half qualifying position and first-round win at the 16th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals in Las Vegas last month.

“I was nervous as I was rolling in to stage, then I was just relieved when the car went down the track and posted a strong number,” said Wolf, who qualified seventh with a 5.384 at 268.33 mph. “It felt good to have all of the hard work rewarded with a run like that.”

Wolf, Booher Pair up for Three-Race NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster Campaign

AUSTIN, TX – At age 30, Kirk Wolf has tried a little bit of everything in drag racing. He’s competed on the local kirk-wolfTexas bracket racing scene, owned and managed the oldest dragstrip in the Lonestar state, and even drove a Top Fuel dragster. Now he’s stepping into the ultra-competitive NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster class as he takes over the seat of Brandon Booher’s proven blown alcohol entry for three races this season.

“It’s exciting to have the opportunity to drive for the Booher family. Brandon didn’t have to offer up the seat like he did. This is a big stretch for him, and I hope I can do well for him and his dad, Aaron.”

After meeting Booher during a previous driving opportunity earlier this spring, Wolf was offered the opportunity to pilot the torque converter-equipped dragster that Booher drove and tuned to a national event win, several regional race victories, and a NHRA North Central Region championship. The plan is to have the success carry over as Wolf takes the wheel.

Booher Prepared for Second JEGS Allstars Appearance at Route 66 Nationals

JOLIET, IL – For the second time in his Top Alcohol Dragster career, Brandon Booher will represent the NHRA Booher Chicago - Mike Sopko Jr photoNorth Central Region in the prestigious JEGS Allstars race this weekend. Held in conjunction with the NHRA K&N Filters Route 66 Nationals, July 7-10, the Allstars race will pit eight of the best TAD competitors from across the country against each other. But unlike most of the other competitors, Booher will spend most of his on-track time dialing in his combination for regional competition.

Booher, the 2013 NHRA North Central Region champion, is using his 2016 national event appearances as testing opportunities to prepare for regional events. The AB Construction team’s first national event of the year at Norwalk two weeks ago yielded promising results, but an untimely loose fitting prevented Booher from making a run in the first round of eliminations.
