Extreme Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Final Session
  By Larry Sullivan

BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Extreme Pro Stock at the American Drag Racing League, ADRL Universal Technical Institute Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Lester Cooper Runs 4.319/169.17, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.085/116.16, Was #17
Right Lane: Greg Lair Runs 5.045/135.09, Now #17; Best prior run: 5.055/104.24, Was #16

9:02 a.m. Greg Lair is on the bump spot for this final qualifying session at 5.055.
Cooper and Dean Goforth are the two cars looking to get into the field, Lair hopes that he can improve or that the other two do not...

Bad news for Lair, his car shook and he had to shut it off, while Cooper got it all sorted out and made a good run to bump him out of the field. Now Morris Johnson Jr. is on the bump spot at 4.449.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Richard Penland No Time, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.174/167.86, Was #13
Right Lane: Morris Johnson Jr. No Time, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.449/162.08, Was #16

Penland made the burnout and the car would not go into reverse, so Johnson shut his car off and waited for Penland's crew to push him back. Then Johnson's car was pushed back behind the water, also silent. Apparently he will be allowed to cool the car down and try again in a few minutes, but Penland's is headed back to the trailer on the end of a tow strap.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Cole Aranson Runs 4.113/176.28, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.145/175.80, Was #12
Right Lane: Bob Bertsch Runs 4.577/172.94, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.114/177.51, Was #9

Bertsch's car stumbled on the launch, but Aranson got a clean launch and a nice run to move a few rungs up the ladder.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Trevor Eman Runs 4.090/177.30, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.109/176.88, Was #8
Right Lane: Pete Berner Runs 5.007/105.13, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.109/177.51, Was #7

As usual, the Aruban flag flies high over the pit side grandstands, celebrating a career-best qualifying effort by Eman. Berner also qualified with a career-best effort, with the same ET as Eman, but a better speed.
Berner's car shook about 200 feet out, but Eman got a nice run this morning and made another career-best run to move around Berner on the ladder, all the way up to fourth.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Mark Martino Runs 4.115/175.96, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.099/176.84, Was #7
Right Lane: Keith Satterfield Runs 4.110/176.74, Now #5; Best prior run: 4.091/176.24, Was #5

Good runs, with 4.11 ETs in both lanes, but no improvement for either driver.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Jeff Dobbins Runs 5.173/98.41, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.097/177.79, Was #6
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 4.074/178.50, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.085/178.78, Was #3

Dobbins' car banged the wheelie bars hard, unloading the rear tires. Montecalvo made a very nice run to move into the second spot on the ladder. John Montecalvo's incremental times: 60ft-0.990 sec., 330ft-2.683.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 4.062/178.05, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.077/177.72, Was #3
Right Lane: Doug Kirk Runs 4.137/174.50, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.117/175.68, Was #11

The hits just keep coming...Gahm retook the #3 spot with a great run and a 178 mph speed of his own. Brian Gahm's incremental times: 60ft-0.968 sec., 330ft-2.668. Kirk made a good run, failed to improve.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 4.079/177.09, Now #4; Best prior run: 4.120/175.96, Was #12
Right Lane: Dean Goforth Runs 4.356/172.45, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.344/92.98, Was #18

Dean is last, his son is first. Dean ran very well here in a test session a couple weeks ago, but hasn't gotten a clean run yet this weekend.
Goforth's car made a big wiggle about 200 feet out, but he muscled his way through it to bump Johnson, replacing him on the bubble. Now the Goforths bookend the field, but Johnson is still sitting out in front of the tower and will run at the end of the session. Meanwhile, Morton stepped way up to move all the way up to fourth on the ladder.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Left Lane: Scott Hintz Runs 4.108/176.49, Now #9; Best prior run: 4.210/158.33, Was #14
Right Lane: Cary Goforth Runs 4.079/178.90, Now #1; Best prior run: 4.048/179.04, Was #1

Goforth needs a 4.088 to back up his 4.048 as an ET record - his 179.04 is already a speed record.
He does it, he now holds both ends of the record, making a nice run. Cary Goforth's incremental times: 60ft-0.993 sec., 330ft-2.691. Meanwhile, Hintz made a huge improvement to move up to the ninth spot.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right Lane: Morris Johnson Jr. Runs 4.523/156.37, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.449/162.08, Was #17

Mojo was the final car to make a qualifying run in this final session after being shut off earlier while another car was removed from the track. He was also the only driver with a chance to break up the Goforth family matchup in round one...and it didn't happen, Johnson's car was weak in the early numbers and he came up well short. of the field
